How to Search the Panola County Court Docket
Most cases here start at the official Panola Odyssey Public Access portal. Its menu splits searches into Court Calendar, civil and family and probate records, and criminal records. Search by cause number first. Without one, choose the party, defendant, attorney, citation, or calendar mode that fits your question. The court named on a pleading, citation, or notice matters most. That name beats any broad county guess. Felony cases and district civil or family matters usually sit with the District Clerk, while county-level cases may point to the County Clerk or the County Court at Law. JP and municipal files stay with those local courts.
- Identify the case class and the court shown on the source record.
- Open Odyssey and select the matching calendar, civil-family-probate, or criminal menu.
- Search by cause number or the correct name role. Use Soundex for uncertain spelling or a wildcard for a partial term, but not both.
- Open the left-side case-number link and read the court, style, parties, events, and settings together.
- Contact the maintaining clerk for a missing item, filed document, certified copy, or in-person inspection. Ask the coordinator to confirm a live setting.
Portals fail sometimes. A loop or a missing court means it is time for the phone, email, mail, fax, a clerk counter, or a written request. Confirm public-terminal access before you travel. The county pages do not promise a named terminal room.
Panola County Docket Portal
Odyssey calls its event list the Register of Actions. The county calls the same view a case summary of events. Either way, it is one timeline. The official Panola County public access source documents the portal menu and its separate routes for calendar, civil-family-probate, and criminal material. It does not cover every JP or municipal case.
| Search Area | Search By | Key Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Court Calendar | Attorney, Case, Judicial Officer, Party or Defendant | Use it for settings, then confirm changes with the court |
| Civil, Family, Probate | Case, Party, Attorney | Required fields change with the chosen mode |
| Criminal | Case, Defendant, Citation, Attorney | A red W beside a result denotes active warrant or warrants |
| All menus | Soundex or wildcard | The two search aids cannot be combined |
Wildcards come with limits. Type at least one character before a name wildcard, and four non-dash characters before a case or cross-reference wildcard. No exports or alerts are promised. The same goes for a free image archive or a set update time.
What a Court Docket Shows
A Panola County court docket is an index of what happened in a case. It is not the whole file. Read the fields together. Only the status or event words actually shown tell you anything, so resist reading between the lines. Treat each entry as one fact.
| Case Number | The cause-number link used to open the case and request a record; no single Panola format is published in help. |
|---|---|
| Case Style | The caption naming the parties or State-versus-defendant case. |
| Court and Judge | The court assignment and judicial officer when shown. |
| Parties and Attorneys | Names and roles that help distinguish similar results. |
| Register Entries | The dated sequence of filings, orders, settings, pleas, judgments, or other events as labeled. |
| Hearing Settings | Date, time, courtroom, judge, setting type, and linked names when available. |
| Status or Disposition | The recorded label, which should not be expanded beyond its text. |
| Documents | Images may require re:SearchTX, an account, payment, or a clerk request. |
Some docket labels mislead. Odyssey tells the public to disregard "Converted Event." A reset means a setting moved, not that the case ended. A missing public entry can reflect a restriction, a coverage gap, or a technical fault.
Panola County Docket Clerk Split
Panola County splits its record-keeping between two clerks. District Clerk Lindsey Smith maintains the files of the 123rd Judicial District Court. Those files cover felony, district civil, family, juvenile, and child-protection material assigned there. County Clerk Bobbie Davis holds the county-level records. She routes Constitutional County Court and County Court at Law material within her office's scope. Knowing the split saves a trip. The official District Clerk page shows the office address, hours, and request channels for district records.

The District Clerk sits in Room 227. The office address is 110 S Sycamore Street, Carthage. The phone number is 903-693-0306. Hours run Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office stays open through lunch. The official County Clerk page documents the second clerk route.

The County Clerk works out of Room 201. Same street address, and the phone number is 903-693-0302. That email route covers records the office holds, not every district, JP, or city docket.
Which Courts Keep Dockets
"Panola County court docket" is not one file. Court level decides who keeps the record and which search route fits. A case can move between the District Court and the County Court at Law under local rules when concurrent jurisdiction and the required judicial action exist. Confirm the assigned court from the cause record.
| Court | Docket Covers | Where to Search |
|---|---|---|
| 123rd Judicial District Court | Felony, district civil, family, juvenile, child protection | Odyssey, re:SearchTX, District Clerk |
| County Court at Law | County criminal, civil, family, juvenile flags | Odyssey, County Clerk, court coordinator |
| Constitutional County Court | Probate, civil, juvenile flags | County Clerk and assigned court |
| JP 1 & 4; JP 2 & 3 | Traffic, Class C, small claims, debt, eviction | Separate JP page, payment portal, or clerk |
| Carthage and Tatum Municipal Courts | City Class C and ordinance matters | City court and municipal payment or record route |
| Federal courts | Federal civil, criminal, or bankruptcy cases | PACER/CM-ECF and the Tyler federal clerk |
Federal matters fall elsewhere. Panola sits in the Eastern District of Texas Tyler Division, where PACER serves as a separate federal system that should never be confused with county Odyssey.
Panola County Docket Versus E-Filing
eFileTexas handles electronic filing in covered state courts. It is not the public Register of Actions. Attorneys must e-file in covered Panola civil and criminal matters, and non-attorneys are encouraged where the system permits. The official e-filing site marks the line between submitting documents and searching them.

A filing receipt proves submission only. It does not prove the event is posted or publicly viewable. Odyssey and re:SearchTX remain the public search routes. A recent filing may simply not be entered yet, so ask the maintaining clerk whether it was accepted. The filer system is not a case index. Document access can also differ from the free event register, which lists events rather than papers.
Finding Court Dates and Settings
Odyssey Court Calendar searches by attorney, case, judicial officer, or party and defendant. Capture what the entry shows. That means the court, cause number, style, date, time, courtroom, judge, and event type. Then confirm the date. A later reset or a written notice can replace what you first saw. Court coordinators help with settings. Erin Johnson coordinates the 123rd District Court. Her number is 903-693-0315. County Court at Law coordinator Gina Goldman is at 903-693-0396. JP 1 & 4 uses 903-693-0375, and JP 2 & 3 uses 903-693-0377. Municipal matters belong to the city clerk named on the citation or notice. Panola local Rule 1.14 governs criminal requests made before or at docket call, and civil setting requests need notice plus an estimated trial time. Rule 1.10 sets case-processing targets, not guaranteed hearing dates. The full Panola County court calendar route explains resets and special settings.
Panola County Specialty Docket
Panola County child-protection settings appear on a dedicated calendar. It is published by the Northeast Texas Child Protection Court Number 1. The calendar shows when cases are set. It is not a window into identities or filings. Juvenile and child-protection privacy rules restrict what may be shared. A date on a county calendar tells you nothing about any one case.
For district child-protection records, the District Clerk is the office to contact. County Court at Law also posts links to child-protection orders. The official OCA specialty-courts listing includes no separate Panola County adult specialty court. So do not assume one exists.
One older item worth knowing is a January 2021 order. It covered Zoom and YouTube access for remote hearings. It barred recording by anyone but the official reporter. That order explains some older docket notices, though it sets no current remote schedule. For present access, contact the coordinator.
Public Access to Dockets
Access to a Texas court docket depends on what kind of record you want. Case records follow court rules, statutes, and court orders. Administrative judicial records take a separate route. And a request under one law never overrides a seal, a confidentiality rule, or a redaction that governs the case file.
Key Texas access rules:
Rule of Judicial Administration 12 provides a route for judicial records but excludes or exempts specified material and is not a universal case-file request rule.
Government Code Chapter 552 states the Public Information Act, while judiciary policy explains its limits for courts and court case records.
Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a and court orders can govern sealed civil records.
Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55A supplies the expunction framework.
Family Code Chapter 58 restricts access to juvenile records.
Respect every redaction you encounter, and never try to rebuild a masked identifier. If a clerk denies access, ask which rule or order controls and what the review process is.
Panola County Docket Workload
Official court-activity reports show how cases move through Panola County. They describe volume, not outcomes. Aggregate counts are never facts about one case. The Texas Office of Court Administration publishes annual statistics. It also offers an interactive CARD report selector covering district, county, justice, and municipal activity. The official CARD selector is the state's own tool for pulling those reports.

The state page lets a reader pick the official court reports. You choose them by court level and county. Read the report headings carefully. Never assign a county total to a single court or case category without checking them. The annual statistical reports page carries the same data in yearly form.

These statewide definitions explain how filing, disposition, and pending counts get reported. The numbers measure the court's workload, not any one person's case outcome.
The Clerk and Docket Records
The District Clerk takes district record requests by phone, email, mail, fax, or an in-person visit. Provide the cause number if you have it, plus the document or event name, the filing date, and how you want delivery. Plain copies can sometimes be emailed. Certified copies cannot; those require pickup or USPS mailing.

Expect some wait. The District Clerk form says normal requests may take two to three business days and asks for up to ten. If you do not know the cause number or pleading, a $5 record search applies. Paper copies run $1 per page. Certified or exemplified copies cost $5 plus $1 per page under the schedule effective September 1, 2025. Ask before you pay. These District Clerk fees do not automatically carry over to County Clerk, JP, municipal, or federal records.
Panola County Docket Copy Types
The event register tells you what happened in a case. What you order may be something else. Options include a plain copy, certified copy, exemplified copy, reporter's record, or clerk's record on appeal, and price, office, and delivery all differ. State the copy type before paying.
- Plain copy
- An ordinary copy of a filed record.
- Certified copy
- A clerk-certified copy. Panola's District Clerk cannot email it.
- Exemplified copy
- An additional authentication form listed by the District Clerk.
- Reporter's record
- A transcript or record obtained through the official court reporter, not a docket printout.
- Clerk's record on appeal
- The clerk-prepared record for appellate use.
Appeals from the area go to the Sixth Court of Appeals at Texarkana. Ask the trial clerk how the record-on-appeal process works there. For a reporter's record, contact the court's reporter directly rather than asking for a docket sheet.
Court Dockets by City in Panola County
Panola County contains four incorporated places. Each city keeps its own Class C and ordinance records. These sit in its municipal court or clerk's office. A city citation should not be routed to Odyssey by default. The issuing court printed on the ticket is the best clue for where the record lives.
Carthage Court Docket
The county seat has an official municipal court page, payment portal, monthly setting pattern, and direct clerk route.
Beckville Court Docket
No current official city docket portal was found; begin with the city clerk and verify whether the citation belongs to a county JP.
Gary City Court Docket
No current official public city court portal was located; keep the citation details and confirm the court through the city or OCA directory.
Tatum Court Docket
The city spans the Panola-Rusk line and has an official municipal court page, clerk contact, and City Secretary records route.
Carthage and Tatum offer city search systems. Beckville and Gary City do not, so call the city court or clerk directly. A citation naming JP 1 & 4 or JP 2 & 3 belongs with that county justice court.
Panola County Docket Office Cluster
The key county offices cluster around Carthage. Sharing a block does not merge their duties. The District Clerk and County Clerk sit in separate rooms at 110 S Sycamore Street. Judicial offices for the 123rd District Court and County Court at Law are at 108 S Sycamore Street. Look for Room 300. Two justice courts share the county building. JP 1 & 4 meets in Room 105, and JP 2 & 3 in Room 103. Know which office holds your record before you walk in. The Texas State Library county-seat source places the local court setting in its wider county context.

Carthage is the Panola County seat. The clerk and court pages remain the place to confirm current docket access.
At the counter, ask for one clear item. That might be the public Register of Actions, a named filing, a plain or certified copy, or the next setting. Give the court and cause number. For a live date or a reset, the coordinator is often the fastest answer. For a filed record, go to the clerk that keeps the case.
Do not count on a same-day search or a public terminal. Call first to confirm access and office hours. Mail requests should state the exact file. Add delivery instructions too. A narrow request improves cost estimates, privacy review, and routing every time.
