How to Search Civil Dockets
The Panola Odyssey public portal puts Civil, Family & Probate Case Records under a single menu. Its help screen offers Case, Party, and Attorney search modes. Pick Case when the cause number is in hand. Party search works when you know a plaintiff, petitioner, defendant, or respondent. Attorney search pulls matters tied to counsel. A hit alone does not prove that lawyer still represents anyone in the case.
Required fields differ by mode and show in red. Soundex catches names that sound alike. An asterisk handles partial names and numbers under the portal's minimum-character rules. But you cannot pair Soundex with a wildcard. If the portal traps you in a redirect loop, fall back on the clerk. Do not conclude the record does not exist.
- Open Civil, Family & Probate Case Records.
- Select Case, Party, or Attorney for the detail in hand.
- Complete the red required fields and apply one spelling aid if needed.
- Open the linked case number and read the Register of Actions by date.
- Confirm the court and request the specific pleading, order, or judgment from its clerk.
What a Civil Docket Shows
Panola County labels its chronology the Register of Actions. A civil docket entry can show the filing date, case style, parties, motions, notices, settings, orders, judgment, dismissal, or appeal. The portal redirects some sessions to a login screen. So read the actual labels on the current case instead of assuming them.
| Case number | The linked cause identifier. An exact format such as YYYY-CV-##### is not documented and should not be invented. |
|---|---|
| Parties and roles | Plaintiff or petitioner and defendant or respondent, when displayed. |
| Filed events | Petition, answer, citation or service, motion, notice, and order entries when present. |
| Settings | Hearing, status, mediation, trial, reset, or continuance labels shown in the register. |
| Resolution | Judgment, dismissal, nonsuit, costs, or notice of appeal as the official record states. |
A docket event is not the pleading itself. A brief line may confirm that a document was filed while saying nothing about its full text or legal effect.
Panola Civil Record Requests
Precision speeds up any request. The Panola District Clerk form asks who you are, the cause number if known, the case style or party names, which document or event you need, the filing date, delivery choice, payment details, and your authorization. Want a judgment? Name the judgment itself rather than asking for every paper tied to a person.
- State the court and cause number.
- Give the full case style and each relevant party role.
- Name the pleading, order, judgment, or event needed.
- Add a filing date or narrow date range.
- Choose plain, certified, or exemplified form and a delivery method.
Fees depend on what you lack. A $5 record search applies when the cause number or pleading is unknown. Paper copies run $1 per page. Certification costs $5 plus $1 per page, and exemplification carries the same $5 plus $1 per page. Certified copies cannot go out by email.
Types of Civil Cases on the Docket
Panola County's civil docket covers more than two-party lawsuits. District court handles district civil and family work. The statutory County Court at Law carries civil, family, and juvenile caseload flags. The Constitutional County Court holds probate and civil responsibility. Justice courts take the smaller civil disputes that fall within their jurisdiction.
- Contract, debt, property, and tort claims filed at the proper court level.
- Divorce and suits affecting the parent-child relationship.
- Probate and estate proceedings routed through the county-level system.
- Small claims and debt claims in the correct Justice of the Peace court.
- Eviction matters maintained by the justice court that heard them.
A combined portal heading settles nothing about jurisdiction. Confirm the court named in the result before asking any clerk for a copy.
Panola Civil Court Split
Two clerks, two jobs. Lindsey Smith, the District Clerk, keeps records for the 123rd Judicial District Court, including district civil, family, and juvenile or child-protection material assigned there. Bobbie Davis, the County Clerk, maintains the county-level court records. Their counters share the same courthouse-office complex, but the offices are not interchangeable.
| Matter | Likely route | Confirm with |
|---|---|---|
| District civil or family | 123rd District Court | District Clerk, 903-693-0306 |
| County-level civil or family | County Court at Law | Clerk plus coordinator, 903-693-0396 |
| Probate | Constitutional County Court | County Clerk, 903-693-0302 |
| Small claim, debt, or eviction | JP 1 & 4 or JP 2 & 3 | The justice court that filed the cause |
Panola's local transfer and docket-exchange rule can also shift a concurrent-jurisdiction case into a court you would not guess from its subject alone.
Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets
A setting is a scheduled court event, not necessarily a trial. A civil Register of Actions can list many event types. Think motion hearing, status conference, docket call, or mediation event. A bench trial, jury trial, reset, or continuance may appear too. Read the entries in order, because a later notice can supersede an earlier date. Then verify the active setting through the court calendar or its coordinator.
Panola local Rule 1.14 governs contested civil settings and Rule 245 notice. Any request should state the estimated trial time and follow the notice process. The County Court at Law page names Gina Goldman as coordinator. Her direct line is 903-693-0396. District matters go through the District Court coordinator at 903-693-0315.
Rule 1.10 sets processing targets. A contested civil jury case carries 18 months. A contested non-jury matter carries 12 months. Those are goals, not promised trial dates.
Note: The Panola civil docket may list more than one date. Trust the newest written notice or order.
Panola Family and Probate Routes
Panola County attaches a standing order to every new divorce suit. It also attaches one to every suit affecting the parent-child relationship. The order covers children, pets, property, and personal conduct while the case stays open. Local time targets give contested family matters six months and uncontested ones three months. Privacy rules and court orders can still shield content. Some family or child-related docket material stays protected.
Probate sits inside the Odyssey civil, family, and probate menu. But the OCA verification assigns probate responsibility to the Constitutional County Court. Start with the register. Then call the County Clerk at 903-693-0302 to locate the official probate document. Give the staff the estate or decedent style, plus the cause number. Add the instrument name, the date, and the copy type you need. The separate land-record system is no substitute for a probate docket search.
Routing clue: A shared search menu joins lookup paths, not clerk duties. Always use the court shown on the result to choose the records office.
Public Access to Civil Dockets
Plenty of civil case events in a Panola County court docket are public. Still, rules, statutes, and orders control what you can see. Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a governs sealed court records. Juvenile confidentiality can limit entries or document images. So can family privacy rules, protective orders, redaction requirements, and case-specific sealing orders. Leave masked information masked. Ask the clerk which rule or order controls a given case lookup.
The Texas Judicial Branch's Open Records Policy draws a line between case records and covered administrative judicial records. Rule 12 is not a universal request method for a filed civil case. And Texas Government Code Chapter 552 does not apply to courts the way it applies to executive agencies. Start with the maintaining clerk's own case-record procedure.
Access boundary: Review the current Texas rules and standards. A missing public image may reflect sealing, redaction, a separate document system, or a portal fault.
Family Code Chapter 58 adds further limits for juvenile records. A public calendar entry on the docket never authorizes disclosure of protected child information.
Panola Civil Access Channels
Odyssey is the first local online route into a Panola County civil docket. Statewide re:SearchTX may provide account-based document access. Panola County does not operate its technical service, though. eFileTexas is different. It submits filings for authorized filers. It is not the public docket reader.
For district civil, family, or juvenile court records, visit or write the District Clerk. The address is 110 S Sycamore Street, Room 227, Carthage, Texas 75633. Call 903-693-0306 or email districtclerk@co.panola.tx.us. The office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. through 5 p.m., including lunch. Requests may use the clerk form, mail, or email. Delivery can be pickup, prepaid-envelope mail, or fax. Normal processing is listed as two to three business days, with up to ten allowed.
For County Clerk-held civil or probate records, use Room 201 at the same street address. The phone is 903-693-0302, or email countyclerk@co.panola.tx.us. A setting question may belong with the County Court at Law coordinator instead. Justice-court files stay with the correct JP office. The OCA activity report selector is the official route for aggregate court workload.

Its totals describe court activity by reporting period. They do not show the status or outcome of any individual civil docket. Note: When the local portal fails, the clerk and coordinator remain the best path to a current Panola County setting or filed order.
